Dr. James Head received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Birmingham-Southern College, and his Doctor of Medicine from University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Carraway Methodist Medical Center and started the practice in 1994. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Urogynecology (Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery). Dr. Head was among the first to become certified in this area in 2013.

Dr. Head pursued a focus in female pelvic medicine because he saw a need for caring physicians in this area of medicine where other doctors often minimize or ignore a patient’s condition. Because of this, Dr. Head often sees patients who have had failed previous treatments. He takes pride in being able to resolve the patient’s problems. Dr. Head is a leader in the field of minimally invasive pelvic surgery.
He individualizes each patient’s treatment based on her needs and goals. His approach to care is in treating patients as he would like to be treated. Dr. Head is motivated by the changes he sees in his patients’ lives and being able to provide exceptional outcomes.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife Leta and his 3 kids and pursue learning of new topics. He recently received his MBA.
